5 Ways to Incorporate Mānuka Honey into Your Summer Routine

Mānuka honey is rich in nutrients and can be used in so many ways. While it has an amazing taste, its texture and molecular structure make it ideal for consumption or topical uses. Many people love to use Mānuka honey as a finishing ingredient for sweet treats, as a glaze over grilled meats or even as a topping for oatmeal and smoothies. Mānuka honey's benefits go far beyond the flavour and dietary support it can provide to the body.

1. Mānuka Honey for Insect Stings and Bites

Placing a small dab of Mānuka honey directly on a sting or bite can help to stop the irritation. Once the spot of honey is on the bite, place an ice cube on top and press firmly for a few minutes. After a few minutes, remove the ice and pat dry. Mānuka honey is full of antibacterials that will help to fight infection long after the ice has been removed.

2. Soothe a Sunburn

If you find yourself dealing with a sunburn, you can apply a thin coat of Mānuka honey and let it remain in place for about 30 minutes. This will allow the honey to absorb into the skin and soothe the irritation caused by the sunburn and may also prevent it from blistering and peeling. After 30 minutes, rinse it away with warm water and pat dry.

3. Repair Your Hair with Mānuka

For shiny and healthy hair, try a Mānuka Honey Hair Mask. Dissolve approximately one teaspoon of Mānuka honey in a glass of warm water. Add two teaspoons of lemon juice and blend well. Shampoo your hair thoroughly and rinse with the honey/lemon mixture. Work it through your hair for a minute or two and then rinse with warm water. Just rinse long enough to remove the mixture.

4. Delicious Honey Butter

To enjoy alongside fresh bread or to incorporate into recipes, Mānuka Honey Butter is just as delicious as it is packed with nutrition. Soften approximately one cup of butter. It should be just soft enough to stir with a spoon, without melting. Then add one-third cup of Mānuka honey and blend well. Using salted butter will provide the sweet/salty flavour many people enjoy on bagels and toast. It can also be used on rolls and pancakes as a breakfast option.
